RC Cars: More Than Toys, More Than a Hobby

RC cars are a fun toy for both kids and adults. If you're getting one for your, it'll teach them many valuable things such as hand-eye coordination, cognitive abilities and space perception, and above all, it'll get them outdoors.  No matter if you're getting one for yourself or a kid, remote control buggy cars are one of the coolest choices to start with.

What's Radio Control (RC)?

Radio Control (RC) is a method of using radio transmitters to send signals to a model vehicle, allowing it to move with precision over long distances. In the past, RC vehicles used AM and FM signals, but now most transmitters use a 2.4 GHz broadcast signal. Multiple people can control cars simultaneously using this technology.

RC Cars Types

RC Buggy

The RC buggy is an all-terrain vehicle designed for rocky terrain, muddy stretches, or gravel. It's a great option for beginners who are still exploring different RC models. Buggies are like a mix of off-road and on-road cars. They're not the fastest on the road, but they're not the slowest offroad either, mainly because of their low wheelbase. Remote control buggy cars are perfect for people who can't make up their minds about what kind of car they want, as they can be used for both purposes. The buggy has long shock absorbers and narrower tyres compared to monster trucks, making it ideal for off-road adventures.

RC Touring Car

Most RC stores have RC touring cars. This type of on-road car is perfect for driving on concrete or carpet, and you can even take it out on the street. With 4 wheels and independent suspension, it has lower and upper arm control. It features a low deck and upper deck to prevent chassis flexing. Typically, the touring car is a 1:10 scale model. The 4WD system allows for easy drifting without damaging the car. Keep in mind, that this model is best suited for flat surfaces and not recommended for off-road terrain like grass.

Street

These cars are your typical street cars. They excel in speed and performance on smooth, level roads. However, if you're planning to drive in your backyard or desire a more powerful vehicle, this might not be the right choice for you.

Drift

Drift cars, on the other hand, are similar to on-road cars but equipped with slick tyres. They allow you to slide around corners while maintaining a high speed, almost comparable to on-road cars. If you find regular cars mundane but enjoy the thrill of driving fast, drift cars are a great option. Just keep in mind that drifting requires skill and practice, so be prepared for the challenge.

What To Get?

If you're choosing an RC car for your kid, it's best to start with something smaller like a buggy. Even older collectors and enthusiasts choose the buggy. It looks cool, it has no problems moving on various terrains such as mud, gravel or grass and is a lightweight option you can take just anywhere. The buggy is an excellent choice for entry-level hobbyists and just anyone who likes to test the waters of RC cars.

Why Get It?

Spend Time Outdoor

This is one of the key advantages of RC cars. Nowadays, kids (and adults) spend most of their time indoors playing video games or doing other things (like work). However, outdoor play is essential for a child's overall growth and well-being. If you're getting an RC buggy for a kid, then you'll get them curious about the new toy that requires to be played outside.  There's nothing quite like the thrill of maneuvering a fast RC car through different terrains and mastering its controls. While some supervision may be needed initially, your child will likely enjoy playing independently most of the time.

Exposure to STEM Education

If you have a child attending school, you may have come across the term "STEM education" or Science, technology, engineering and Mathematics.
This approach leads to a comprehensive learning experience. You may be curious about the connection between STEM education and RC cars. These cars offer children the opportunity to learn about trajectory through driving, turning, and performing tricks.

Enhances Hand-Eye Coordination

Operating an RC car can greatly enhance your kid's hand-eye coordination. Instead of being physically present in the driver's seat, they will be controlling the car from a distance, maneuvering it skillfully to avoid obstacles. This experience provides an excellent opportunity for your child to develop and enhance their hand-eye coordination.

Improves Cognitive Abilities and Perception of Space

The coordination between our hand-eye movements and our brain plays a crucial role in enhancing our cognitive abilities and spatial awareness. As children manipulate their radio-controlled cars, their eyes provide visual input to the brain. Later, the brain utilizes this input to approximate the relative distance of the RC vehicle from its environment.
